2025 GAO
The 2025 GAO will test the student’s knowledge and academic talents in the subjects of Mathematics and Science. Each student can choose to participate in any of the two disciplines in order to represent their school’s academic brainpower.
GAO Disciplines
-
Test Subjects: Mathematics and Science
-
Test Areas by Subject
2.1 Mathematics: Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus (Provided at the 11th grade level)
2.2 Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science
-
Participants
All students participating in the Global Youth Forum can participate in the Global Academic Olympiad. The students are to choose at least one test subject
3.1 Students may choose the test subject(s).
3.2 Students can register for the GAO when registering for the whole event.
3.3 Students who only wish to participate in GAO may register for GAO only, with a registration fee of $150.
3.4 The test subjects can be changed up and until May 9th, 2025, no changes will be made after that date.
3.5 Students may contact kyehwan@gemgem.org for any questions regarding this year’s GAO.

General Test Information
Students need to bring their own pen, pencil, eraser, and/or white out to the test. The use of any other tools are prohibited.
Math and Science (Middle School)
4.1 The Math and Science tests consist of 50 multiple choice questions each.
- Math: 7th grade level (20%), 8th grade level (50%), 9th grade level (30%)
- Science: 7th grade level (20%), 8th grade level (50%), 9th grade level (30%)
4.2 The test time for each test is 40 minutes.
Math and Science (High School)
4.3 The Math and Science tests consist of 50 multiple choice questions each.
- Math: Geometry (12 questions), Algebra (13 questions), Trigonometry (13 questions), Calculus (12 questions)
- Science: Biology (13 questions), Chemistry (12 questions), Physics (13 questions), Earth Science (12 questions)
4.4 The test time for each test is 60 minutes. -
Test Design
To ensure the fairness of the tests, to acknowledge and include teaching as well as focus differences of each school, and to offer a broader spectrum of knowledge, we ask all participating schools to submit test questions for the math and science tests to be used in the Global Academic Olympiad.
The organizing committee will randomly select the test questions for the GAO test from the questions submitted by each school. Submitting the test questions is an opportunity for each school to set the bar as well as to offer the students a broader range of topics to compare their skills in a truly international academic environment.
Math and Science
5.1 Each participating school will submit test questions for the (Middle/High School) math and (Middle/High School) science tests 5.2 Each school is to submit a total of 60 test questions per subject, proportional to the test areas, i.e. 15 questions per test (high school) or level (middle school).
5.3 The difficulty level for each set of 15 questions is the following: 5 easy, 5 intermediate, and 5 difficult questions.
5.4 The test format is to be multiple choice with 5 possible choices per question. 5.5 Both tests (Math and Science) must have a separate answer sheet.
5.6 The test questions and answer sheets must be submitted to the organizing committee via email (kyehwan@gemgem.org) by 9pm on May, 9th, 2025 (Korean local time).
5.7 In order to ensure fairness and the accuracy of the questions, the organizing committee may submit the collected test questions to external academic organizations for review.
